At BirdWatch Zambia, our work is rooted in the belief that lasting conservation is only possible when science, communities, and strong environmental governance come together. Through long-term partnerships across Zambia and the region, we protect birdlife, strengthen ecosystems, and champion the people and places that make this biodiversity possible. Our conservation strategy is shaped by four core pillars that connect every programme, project, and collaboration we lead.

Species
We focus on safeguarding Zambia’s diverse bird species through evidence-based conservation. From field surveys and population monitoring to researching threats and implementing species-specific action plans, we work to secure vulnerable and endemic birds for generations to come.

Sites
We identify and protect the most important habitats for birds and biodiversity, including Key Biodiversity Areas and critical wetlands. Our work involves ecological assessments, habitat restoration, site management planning, and supporting community-driven stewardship of these landscapes.

Systems
Strong conservation requires strong foundations. We contribute to national and regional policies, build partnerships with government and conservation networks, and support long-term systems that promote environmental resilience. This includes advocacy and collaboration with the BirdLife International Partnership.

Conservation thrives where people are empowered. We engage local communities, youth groups, schools, & volunteers by providing education, training, and platforms for participation. By strengthening community leadership & conservation knowledge, we help ensure nature remains central to sustainable development.
